My alarm clock was the one who woke me up this morning at exactly at 6. On a bright Monday morning, I had to go to school. A depressing word for students but a paradise for parents. Parents get to have a day without their children around them. Which makes their parents happy or sometimes sad. “Parents”, I hated that word. When I always hear it, it gives me the goose bumps.
I woke up and got into my cute school uniform. Spring was here and I looked out at my window. Sakura leaves were falling onto the ground. I opened my door and stuck out my hand. A small sakura petal fell onto my hand. I smiled and decided to place it in my diary.
I walked over to my desk which was beside the window. I opened my diary and placed it in a new entry. Then I wrote a comment.
The first day of spring and my last year of high school. Mom, Dad, I hope this year will be better than last year. Please help me guide my way through life.
I taped the petal in my diary and drew an arrow to the petal. I closed my diary before I ran into my kitchen to grab some breakfast. Then I found a note beside my breakfast that was wrapped up for me.
Sakura, I made breakfast for you. I will be home late so order or cook anything you want for dinner.
-Kaoko
Kaoko-san is my guardian, she was my mother’s best friend. When she heard that no one would take me in, she accepted me without any questions. Since I knew no one else, she had brought me up. But deep inside I knew that she wasn’t my real mother. I smiled and grabbed the chopsticks beside the meal. I shouted “Itaikimasu!” I gobbled down my breakfast and grabbed my school bag. Then I headed out the door. I locked the door and ran to Touken Academy, the high school that I'm currently attending.
To my surprise, a lot of people were waiting for me. “Ohayo gozaimasu” I shouted to everyone who was walking to school. They waved or smiled. The people who were waiting for me at the school's gate came from few sport clubs who wanted me to help them out.
“Sakura-san, can you help us out tonight? We lost a member for tonight’s game so we are a member short.” The soccer club leader said.
“The tennis club needs your help with practice tonight, please help us Sakura-san.” One of the tennis club’s member said.
Then many more clubs started to crowd around me. I smiled and said “I’ll help everyone, so don’t worry.” They sighed in relief and started to back up away from me, to let me through to the school. I smiled and then started to walk towards the entrance. Then a few seconds later, I was crowded again but with boys and flowers. I sighed and said. “Leave your letters in my locker and I’ll read each one.” They nodded in happiness and ran towards my locker. They started to stuff their letters and ran away. Yes, this was a normal day for me.
I walked up to my locker which was stuffed with letters. I opened my locker and moved to the side quickly. Then all different coloured letters started to spill out. I opened my bag and grabbed a big bag from my school bag. I first changed my shoes and then started to place the letters in the big bag. As I was getting my last letter, someone had picked it up before I could.
I looked up to see, Ninomiya Kazunari opening it. I stood up and asked. “I guess you are really desperate for a love letter..”
He ignored me and read it out loud.
“Sakura-san, you are so beautiful. I really like you. I hope you feel the same way about me. Please go out with me. I’ll be waiting for your reply. From Yamada Daisuke.” He smirked and said. “I bet you that I’ll get more letters like this one than you.”
I smiled and said. “More than half of the population are guys. I’ll take that bet on then. How about if I win?”
He smiled and said. “I’ll shout out to the whole school that you are the most popular in school and I won’t compete with you anymore.”
Then I asked. “How about I lose?”
He smirked again at me and said. “You have to go out with me, on a date.” I suddenly dropped the bag and my school bag. Everyone in the hallway stopped in their tracks. The whole school was quiet. I stared into his eyes. He was serious. Confused and dazed, I picked up my stuff and ran to my classroom.
3-A. My classroom was the most popular class. I opened the doors and I ran to my seat which was in the second row beside the window. I hung my school bag on the small hook on the side of my desk and slid the bag of letters under my seat. Then many girls went up to me, asking about the incident that had happened. As I was about to answer, Nino walked in and towards his friends. He shot a glance at me and then high-five his friends. Then his group started to whisper about the incident. I was too distracted by what he said to me, that I didn’t notice that the girls were still asking me questions. Then my teacher came in, Kudo-sensei. He was famous for inventing a new way to find a cure for cancer.
He smiled at me and by that smile, I knew he found out about my bet to Ninomiya Kazunari.
