Many years passed by since I was at Touken Academy. I always wanted to go back in time and re-live my life in Tokyo, in Touken. Those days were filled with happiness that I will never forget. Now, I’m 25 years old. Living in Tokyo, by myself.
It has been 6 years since I graduated from high school. It’s the spring that I had forgotten. It has been 2 years since Kaoko-san died. I was left all alone, with no one around to support me.
Kaoko-san had died while she doing business with an important company. While she was driving to the meeting, a dangerous driver who had not seen the red light and crashed into Kaoko-san’s car. I decided to change my life in Tokyo. The life that I had left behind.
“So I’m here?” I gasped as I was walking towards my new apartment. It was a luxurious apartment, it had a elevator and you need a password to get in. In Osaka, the apartment that I lived in had locks and keys that you needed to use in order to get into your house. It was totally different than what I remember from 6 years ago.
I walked to the office where I shouted in a Kansai accent. “Hello? Is anyone here?” A lady called and she ran over to me. “You must be Matsuda Sakura-san, from Osaka.” She didn't really have to add on the last word at the end of her sentence... I shook my head and said. “Gomen. I forgot I wasn’t living in Osaka anymore..”
She smiled and stared at me. “You need to enter a password to enter to the elevators. It's a safety precaution. We also have security cameras too.” She smiled and led me to the computer. She asked “What code would you like to have? Just punched in 4 numbers.” She turned around and I punched in XXXX and the computer accepted it. It gave out a ding sound and the landlady turned around.
She told to enter it again and then the elevator opened and we both walked in. She pressed the 17th floor button and elevator music started to play. We reached the floor and she led me to a room. 1714, was my room number.
“Here is your room, I’ll give you the key.“ She took out a small key card from her pocket. Then she continued. “Anyways, if you have questions just let me know.” She walked in the other direction and then I hesitated. “Umm.. Are there people living in the rooms beside me?” She turned around and then smirked at me. “Yes, a person is living in 1713 but 1715 is unoccupied.” She turned around and then walked away.
"Maa.. Whatever. I guess I have a neighbor." I unlocked the door with my new key. Then I opened the door to see all my boxes were in my living room. I dropped my purse and my hand luggage on my sofa and went into the kitchen to drink a glass of water.
Then my phone rang, it was playing a sweet and cute harmony.
Moshi-moshi?
Ah, Sakura-chan are you settled in yet?
No, I just arrived in Tokyo a few minutes ago.
Honto? Anyways, I have 2 tickets to the Arashi concert in Tokyo for Saturday.
Wait, that’s why you almost missed saying good-bye to me today..
Yeah.. Anyways, I’ll be staying at your house on Saturday and then do some shopping on Sunday. I’ll leave before dinner-time.
Whatever, Miki-chan. I’ll see you this Saturday then. I have a lot of unpacking to do.
Ganbatte at your new workplace, Sakura-chan. Bye-bye.
Bye-bye.
I closed my phone and looked at the sakura petal phone strap. It reminded me of Kaoko-san so I stuffed my cell phone in my pocket.
For an hour, one by one I took each boxes and unloaded them. I stored my clothes in my room and then everything else I organized to be placed in each room. Kitchen supplies in the kitchen. Bathroom stuff in the bathroom and so on.
When I was done, I was tired and hungry. I grabbed my phone, the key and money. I walked down to a ramen shop near the apartment. I felt so happy that I was living in Tokyo again, where you can eat mostly anything.
I paid and then left the shop. I walked in the busy and dark streets of Tokyo. It was loud with laughter and screaming coming from drunk people. A busy night for everyone, except for me. I sighed and then walked towards my new apartment, my new beginning.
XXXX, I pressed on the computer. I went in the elevator and pressed the 17th floor button. The elevator music made me giggle and then I walked towards my apartment. I heard laughter coming from the room beside mine.
Curiosity struck me and then I leaned on the door. “Haha. Hey, you have a new neighbor right? I saw another name plate on the door beside you.” A man with a really low voice said. Then I heard footsteps coming towards me, I quickly stopped leaning and then walked to my door. I unlocked my door and then got in the room quickly before they saw me in the hallway. I walked to my couch and pretended that I didn’t eavesdrop on them.
Knock-knock. It was coming from my door. I dropped everything and then walked towards my door. I opened it to see a really handsome person in front of me.
“Um.. Who are you?” I asked when I popped my head out. “Domo, I’m a friend of your neighbor. I’m guessing you haven’t met him yet.” I shook my head and then he smiled. “Oh, I forgot my introductions. Sakurai Sho desu.”
I couldn’t believe my eyes, he was the famous Sakurai Sho, who does news and is in the band Arashi. “Domo, Matsuda Sakura desu.” I widened my door and then he asked. “Are you free right now? Would you like to join us for some beer?” He gave me a friendly smile and then I said in a quiet voice. “Hai.”
I made sure my cell phone was in my pocket and then walked over to my purse to grab my key. I put on my shoes that I wore and walked out to see Sho holding the door for me. I bowed and mumbled “Arigato.”
Sakurai Sho’s friend’s apartment was similar like mine but it had a bit more space. I followed Sho who was leading me to his friends. I stopped, where I could see 5 guys including Sho, who was sitting beside another guy. They were sitting on the floor, had food on the table and in front of a big television. They turned to face me, I felt nervous and scared. I walked a forward a bit and then my phone rang. The other guys were still staring at me. I quickly grabbed my cell phone and turned around.
“Moshi-moshi.” I said in a low voice.
Sakura-chan, why are you whispering?
Miki-chan, I’m busy right now. I’ll call you back okay?
Sakura-chan, it’s important!!
Gomen ne, Miki. I’ll call you back okay?
Okay. Bye-bye.
Bye-bye.
I hung up and then closed my cell phone. I turned around to see everyone still staring at me. Then someone called my name.
“Sakura-chan?” It was a familiar voice but his name was at the top of my tongue.
